The Kentucky Movement Assembly

In 2009, Kentucky Jobs with Justice held one of the only statewide social forums in the United States.

As defined by the People’s Movement Assembly, “World Social Forums are semi-annual convergences that create open space for movements to share, connect, and strengthen beyond the boundaries of political parties, initiated in resistance to the World Economic Forum. The Social Movement Assembly was created to make and implement movement decisions within the World Social Forum. The Peoples Movement Assembly is a political methodology born out of the Social Movement Assembly process and the United States Social Forum.”

Preliminary Schedule

Kentucky Movement Assembly is a space for activists, organizers, and community members from across the Commonwealth to join together, share our stories, and take action on public policy. The Kentucky Movement Assembly will take place Friday, September 15th – Sunday, September 17th.

The assembly will collectively answer:

  1. What are the problems we face?
  2. What are the solutions?
  3. What are we going to do about it?

Despite the setbacks from our state legislature in recent years, Kentucky has a long history of effective organizing and successful social justice movements.
